How to export your catalog
LibStop works with the catalog exports most library systems already produce.
Formats that work
- CSV or spreadsheet export (.csv, or tab-separated .txt/.tsv). Best choice when it includes circulation counts.
- MARC records (.mrc). Good for metadata checks, but usually has no circulation data.
- MARCXML (.xml).
Files can be up to 25 MB and 100,000 rows. For a large district, export one school at a time.
Columns that make the report most useful
Look for a "title list," "item list," "collection report" or "custom export" option in your library system's reports area, and include as many of these as you can:
- Title, author, ISBN
- Call number
- Publication or copyright year
- Subjects and genre
- Reading level (any scale)
- Item barcode, total checkouts and last checkout date
- Date added, if available
Column names don't need to match exactly. You'll confirm the matches after uploading.
Leave out patron information
You don't need any student or staff information. If your export lets you choose columns, leave out patron names, IDs, barcodes and who has an item checked out. If some slip through, LibStop removes columns that look like patron data before saving anything, and shows you what it removed.
Trouble with an export?
Email hello@libstop.com with the name of your library system and the error you saw. Please don't attach the file itself.
